The new Pak’n Save at Wairau Park on the North Shore of Auckland will open with a new fleet of HYSTER Matrix Reach Trucks and a HYSTER Fortis counterbalance forklift supplied by Gough Materials Handling (GMH).
These are the first HYSTER’s to be operated by Foodstuffs and Pak’n Save says GMH National Sales Manager Jason Manak.
“The selection process was extremely thorough and detailed including an equipment demonstration at the GMH showroom in Auckland. The focus was on the high-performance specification and quality of the HYSTER equipment” said Jason.
“Couple the quality of the equipment with a high level of customer support and the decision was made easier for the Foodstuffs and Pak’n Save teams.”
“The 'programmable performance parameters' of the HYSTER Matrix plays a major role in ensuring optimal safety tailored to the environment the equipment is working in. 360 degree electronic steering provides for safe and controlled movement ideally suited to the compact & busy nature of a supermarket warehouse facility.
“The HYSTER Matrix reach trucks are full battery AC motor-controlled, and feature a fully regenerative system. Obviously emissions are the last thing you want in an enclosed facility, without conceding battery reliability and performance. The HYSTER Matrix is a superb performer in this regard” says Jason.
“We are looking forward to a long and positive partnership with Foodstuffs and all Pak’n Save locations around the country” said Jason.

Jason comes to Gough Materials Handling with a strong history in materials handling, most recently as a Sales Manager with AB Equipment.
Jason's background includes a successful career in the Air Force as Service Engineer on industrial equipment / forklifts and construction equipment.Jason believes Gough Materials Handling is a company with huge potential; "The Hyster equipment is high quality and very well appointed. The big truck range from Container Handlers to Reach Stackers speak for themselves with well deserved market dominance and a reputation of rugged reliability," he said.
"There is a big opportunity with the HYSTER 1.5 tonne to 5 tonne range and the battery electric range. Despite Gough Forklift's impressive infrastructure, and Hyster's technically advanced and robust machines, the brand has not made the impact they should have on the New Zealand market over recent years.
"Gough Gough and Hamer took on the Hyster dealership for NZ in 1945, to this day the partnership remains strong; "There aren't many companies out there that can boast a strong partnership spanning 65 years," continued Jason.
"Hyster's complete "one brand" range of equipment, from a hand pallet truck to a 54 tonne container handler is of huge benefit. The advantage of having "one genuine brand" is being to able to support the range with parts commonality, training, and service.
"Too many companies offer a variety of equipment and do not have the ability to support the range effectively spreading resources to thinly.
"Some forklift companies have been in the market for 5 minutes with cheap Chinese or Korean imports. Customers buying from these companyies forget the initial purchase is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the cost of ownership. The lower quality of this equipment will eventually result in a requirement for parts and service.
"Hyster is a company that has a long history, great products and a very bright future.
